Compare two PDFs

Compare PDF text, layout and appearance, with optional OCR for scans.

Choose two unlocked PDFs: up to 100 pages each, 40 MB total.

Compare an original PDF with a revision

Review changed wording, moved content and visual differences between two PDFs. The report helps you find changes; it does not decide whether they are correct.

Check which pages belong together

Choose the original first and the revision second. The tool matches likely page pairs and lists unmatched pages as additions or removals.

Confirm any uncertain pair before relying on its findings. A missing page should not make every later page appear changed simply because its page number has shifted.

Read the findings in context

Text findings show added, removed or replaced words. Layout findings cover moved text or changed page sizes and rotation. Visual findings show differences in pictures, colour and other page artwork.

Open the paired pages and inspect each relevant area. Small rendering differences can resemble a visual change, and a change in position can matter even when the wording is the same.

Treat scan recognition as a reading aid

Pages without a text layer are compared visually. You can choose a language and run local OCR on up to ten matched page pairs to help identify wording changes.

OCR may misread names, numbers, dates, handwriting or faint print. Check the page images even if the recognised words appear equal. Pages where recognition is unavailable remain visual-only.

Open and acknowledge each pair marked for review before exporting the report. This records that you have reviewed the pair, not that OCR was accurate.

Keep the report with both PDFs

The job accepts two unlocked PDFs, up to 100 pages each and 40 MB together. Neither source is overwritten. Export a PDF report to read or share, or JSON for use in another system.

The report identifies both source files and the page pairs, findings, settings and limitations. Keep those sources beside it so someone else can check a finding. The comparison does not authenticate a document or validate a digital signature.

Questions
What happens to the source PDFs?

Comparison creates a separate report and leaves both source PDFs unchanged.

How are scanned PDFs compared?

Scans are compared visually first. Optional OCR covers up to 10 matched page pairs where either side lacks text; recognised names, numbers, dates, handwriting, tables and faint text require visual review.

Where is comparison processed?

Comparison and optional OCR run in this browser. The selected language model is fetched from Rebuildfree, while the PDFs and recognised text remain on the device.
