Optimise PDF
Add a watermark to PDF
Add a watermark to PDF pages as diagonal text and save a separate copy.
Choose a file
Choose one PDF and enter up to 80 characters of watermark text.
Mark a PDF as draft, sample or restricted
Add the same diagonal text across every page. A watermark communicates a status or label; it does not stop someone opening or editing the file.
Choose wording that fits the page
Enter up to 80 characters. Short labels such as DRAFT, SAMPLE or NOT FOR DISTRIBUTION are easier to read than a full sentence. Put detailed instructions in the document or accompanying message.
You can also name the intended recipient or author. Check spelling before processing, because the wording is repeated on every page.
Review the mark on different backgrounds
The text runs diagonally through each page in a translucent slate colour. Its size adapts to the wording. This tool does not offer per-page wording or controls for position, colour and opacity.
Check light and dark pages in the result to make sure the mark is visible and does not obscure important content. Review accents and right-to-left text if you use them.
Use other protection where needed
A watermark may remain visible in screenshots and printouts, but someone with PDF editing software may be able to remove it. It does not enforce confidentiality or ownership.
Use password protection to restrict opening the file. Use redaction to remove information that must not be shared. The watermarked PDF is a separate copy, and the source stays unchanged.
Questions
How is the watermark placed?
The text is drawn diagonally across the centre of all pages with low opacity and an adaptive size.
Can a watermark prevent copying?
No. It communicates status or ownership but does not control access to the PDF.
What happens to the source PDF?
The watermark is added to a new copy, and the source PDF remains unchanged.
How should access or sensitive content be handled?
Use password protection to control opening the file and redaction to remove content from the shared copy.
