Delete unwanted pages from a copy

Remove a known list of pages and keep the rest of the PDF in its original order. The source document is not changed.

Use the original page positions

Enter a list such as 3, 7, 12-14. These are positions in the source PDF, not numbers printed on the pages. The full list is resolved before deletion, so you do not need to adjust later numbers.

Open the source in a PDF reader to match page positions with the content you intend to remove. At least one page must remain; deleting the whole document is refused.

Check the gaps left by removal

Bookmarks and links to deleted pages are removed, page labels are rebuilt and supported form fields that belonged only to deleted pages are cleaned up.

Open the result and inspect the pages on either side of each deletion. Check that a sentence, table or appendix has not been separated from the pages it needs. Test any surviving links or forms.

Choose the shorter list to enter

Remove pages is convenient for unwanted scan backs or an obsolete appendix. If only a few pages should remain, use Extract pages and enter the pages to keep instead.

Page removal does not redact content on a kept page. Use redaction for sensitive details that remain in the shared copy, then check that export separately.

Questions
How are pages selected for removal?

Enter page numbers or ranges such as 2, 5-8. Blank pages are not detected automatically, and at least one page must remain.

How is a different removal selection made?

The source PDF remains unchanged, so start again with a different page list and save another copy.

How does page removal affect file size?

Removing pages usually reduces the file size, although shared PDF resources can make the reduction smaller than expected.

Which removal selections are invalid?

Each selected page must exist in the source, and at least one page must remain in the document.
